(A flywheel is heavy wheel regulating the speed and uniformity of motion of the machine to which it is attached.) If for some reason the battery should fail, the rope can be wrapped around the flywheel and started by hand. Many large outboard engines come with emergency pull ropes installed under the hood as standard equipment. Nobody can start a motor that big by hand.Ī: Well, I hope you didn’t make a large bet with your friend, because you just lost. Q: My friend claims it is possible to start a 150 horsepower, six cylinder outboard engine with a pull rope. Keep a good coat of wax on your boat to seal its finish and prevent stains. I suggest that you try an inconspicuous spot first. If the rest of the boat is badly faded the area of repair may look darker in color. Be especially careful around corners as the finish may not be as thick. If you sand in one spot too long you can go through the finish. Once the majority of the stain is gone use a fiberglass rubbing compound to bring back the shine to the finish and then seal it with a good fiberglass wax. The stain should start to disappear rapidly. Trickle a constant flow of water over the stain and move the sandpaper in a small circular pattern. This is done by using a very fine grade wet-dry sandpaper – 1,200 grit or higher. If marine rubbing compounds have not done the job, you must remove a thin layer of the boat’s finish to remove the stain.
